Schoolboy Voted in As America’s Youngest Mayor

The new mayor of Hillsdale, Michigan, is a man of the people, ready to listen to their every concern, but only until 6pm. Then he has to do his homework.

The local elections on Tuesday may have been dismal for George Bush’s Republican party, but they were a triumph for Michael Sessions, an independent who emerged as the country’s youngest mayor at the age of 18.

Mr Sessions, who is too young to drink in his own town, won by just two votes after a recount. By 670 votes to 668, he beat the sitting mayor, who is 51, and had all the advantages of incumbency. And he won despite the fact that his name was not even on the ballot.

He was too young to stand by the spring deadline for registration, so after he turned 18 he entered as a write-in candidate – meaning voters had to remember his name and add it to the ballot by hand in order to support him. The circumstances make his triumph all the more likely to be a model for future insurgent candidates.

He started by winning the support of a powerful interest group, the Hillsdale firefighters’ union, who had fallen out with the town council.

The union has a membership of three, but in post-September 11 America it wields symbolic clout. Before endorsing Mr Sessions, its president, Kevin Pauken, called his teachers to check on his credentials.

“The guys were a little leery at first because of his age, but he really impressed us with his openness and his energy,” Mr Pauken told the Detroit News.

To help get his name known, Mr Sessions raised $700 (£400) selling toffee apples over the summer and spent it on posters and placards which were sprinkled around Hillsdale’s lawns by election day. His month-long campaign involved going door to door, explaining his vision of the town’s future in the kitchens of his initially sceptical neighbours.

“They’d look at me, and say ‘How old are you again? How much experience do you have?’ And I say ‘I’m still in high school’,” he recalled.

He promised Hillsdale’s voters he would revitalise the local economy and made his youthful energy his selling point. “I was optimistic the whole time,” he explained. At one point, five days before election day, that enthusiasm threatened to get the better of him. He spent so long out on the streets knocking on the doors, ignoring his mother’s pleas for him to wear a coat, that he ended up in a hospital emergency room with bronchitis. But by then his momentum had become unstoppable.

Mr Sessions insists that his high school obligations will not get in the way of his mayoral duties, pointing out that the $3,000-a-year job is part-time.

“From 7.50am to 2.30pm, I’ll be a student. From 3 to 6, I’ll be the mayor of Hillsdale, working on mayor stuff,” he said.

To help him do the “mayor stuff”, he is assembling a transition team of trusted advisors, who will help him deal with the town council and the town manager, who run the town between them.

The ousted mayor, Douglas Ingles, conceded defeat graciously and prepared to return to running his business, a roller-skating rink, full time after four years in office. “This is a very exciting time for our community. We need to find ways to generate enthusiasm, and I am 100% supportive of any change that makes that happen,” he said.

Prophecy 2009 – What is Ahead for America

Although Obama isn’t the only key figure to watch, his presidency will set the stage for hundreds of events that will shake America. A shaking I generally predict will be the worst period in our entire history as a nation. He managed to skip over the eligibility question and has entered his administration with doubt hanging over it and its constitutionality. At this moment not many people care about that.

My first prediction is that those who have questioned his eligibility as a natural born citizen will not stop trying to uncover the truth at any time during his presidency. My second forecast is that a growing number of people who once supported Barack Obama will join that investigation in time. When the honeymoon period is over the truth may then come out, that will be one of the most confusing days America will ever be asked to face.

For the first part of 2009 it will be like a circle of happy children dancing around the Maypole with everyone in blithe anticipation for the next move Obama makes. In 2010 the tables will shift and by the end of his first term he will lose over half of his original support.

I can safely say not as a prediction but as a prophetic surety that his administration will not end without the greatest economic downturn in our history as a nation. In the end it will make the stock market crash of 1929 look like a boom time.

Trusted financial institutions will fold like a house of cards and the Fed will be helpless to save them. Consumer goods will start to disappear and gasoline will be the least of our problems. These things will begin in late 2009 and will take a few years to unfold entirely.

Christian ministries will not only suffer from their own apostasy but major house bills and social trends will squeeze the true church to the point of open persecution. Conservative Christian organizations like ADF one of America’s top defenders of our rights and the rights of Christians and Churches started a 2009 budget projection at $8,000,000, compare that to the ACLUs $220,000,000 projection and you’ll get the picture.

You will see dozens of multilateral decisions made by this administration that will erode the sovereignty of the United States. The solid base of support for Israel will also begin to suffer.

Not once in my entire life have I ever so much as even guessed at whom in our world could be the Antichrist or the False Prophet described by the prophets of old and the book of Revelation. During the meteoric rise of Barack Obama I first began to think he may be the False Prophet who aids the rise of the EU ruler we will all come to know as the Antichrist. I am still watching that and I am not ashamed to say that it looks like more of a possibility with each passing day.

If that is so then it is only the bad news before the good news. I am sure that near the end of my life or shortly thereafter every promise of the second coming of Christ will be fulfilled and he will be standing in person in the city of Jerusalem only moments after the end of the battle of Armageddon. Every army in the world will be gathered in the plains of Esdraelon approximately 55 miles north of Jerusalem and will meet their doom in that valley.

My life is nearly over and while it may last just a little longer than you can hold your breath you may not want to start a 30 year retirement fund.

There is nothing new here for me I have been forecasting these things for over three decades the only difference now is that they are unfolding right before my eyes.

Many people think they should grab their things a huge supply of food and head for the mountains. They are merely looking for a door or a way out of it all. Is there a door and what is the way out?

I will let two passages spoken by Jesus Christ answer that question and my best advice is that you take them very seriously.

“I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture.” (Jn 10:9)

“For whosoever will save his life shall lose it; but whosoever shall lose his life for my sake and the gospel’s, the same shall save it.” (Mk 8:35)

Regardless of the details of prophetic events Christ is still the “door” by which you can change your eternal destiny and direction. This proclamation has seen its peak of public acceptance and is now waning in general acceptance but it is meant for only one individual at a time. It is my prayer at the beginning of 2009 that the person who heeds this warning will be you.

Powergen buys up TXU UK

Electricity supplier Powergen today bought up the British operations of troubled US energy group TXU for £1.3bn, in the latest upheaval in the UK energy market.

Powergen, owned by German utility group E.On, will acquire TXU’s UK retail business and three coal-fired power stations. TXU employs 1,600 staff in the UK and supplies power to 5.5 million domestic and business customers.

The deal marks the retreat from the UK one of the last significant US players, leaving the sector in largely European hands.

Earlier, the electricity group Scottish & Southern Energy said it had broken off talks on a possible purchase of TXU’s British operations, leaving the way clear for a German takeover.

Scottish & Southern said it had been in talks to acquire “certain assets” of TXU’s UK energy supply business, but said that “discussions are no longer taking place”.

TXU’s European businesses ran into a funding crisis when the Dallas-based company announced a profits warning and abruptly withdrew plans to supply $700m (£452m) of additional funds for its troubled European arm, effectively putting assets up for sale.

TXU’s European subsidiary owns the former Eastern and Norweb regional supply companies in the UK as well as three large coal-fired power stations. The deal will mean a further concentration of the UK energy supply market – currently dominated by Centrica, which trades as British Gas, E.On, RWE and the French state-owned Electricité de France.

Separately, the coal mining group UK Coal saw shares surge after saying it expected to resume the supply of coal to the AES Drax power station in North Yorkshire next month. UK Coal cut off supplies after AES failed to pay a bill understood to be for £15m.

The move to halt supply fed concerns about the future of UK Coal, which is dependent on UK generators, and shares in the group slid 11% on the announcement last week.

TXU’s forced sale of its UK operations underlines the turmoil in the UK energy industry. The loss-making British Energy nuclear power producer recently had to turn to the government for a £650m bailout, while leading generator Powergen closed a quarter of its capacity and declared the market “bust”.

The root of the problem is huge over-capacity and the introduction last year of a wholesale electricity market mechanism, Neta. This has encouraged fierce competition and caused power prices to plunge to levels where few, if any, generating stations can make a profit.

The fall in wholesale prices, however, has not been passed on to the consumer.

Ofgem, the energy regulator, says the problem is not Neta but the previous wholesale electricity market that kept prices artificially high for years and led to over-investment in new generating capacity. Fears are growing that the level of power prices will deter companies from investing in new power stations for the longer term.

“Slide needed for orphan spacecraft. Check location.” I said, trying to be as clear as possible in my words. I needed the confirmation from the dock managers to land in a proper slot. Slides were devices which received the spacecrafts. I was cramming as much information into my head from the file readers as possible about Emperia.
‘It was a farming planet. Population was very low. Only occupation was farming of leaves which produced Emperia wine. Emperia wine was among the costliest wine sold. (Ah! Lots of money). Houses were situated on the farm itself. There was one huge factory where all the harvest was submitted. And the farming was done throughout the year.’
“Permission granted. Spacecraft directed to slide 207.”
I swiveled to the control panel and prepared to land. A rush of adrenaline made it easy for me to accommodate the extreme fog.
The craft shuddered as the slide fixed itself to the upper pole of my spacecraft. The fog decreased as the slide drew me inwards.
The biggest adventure I had ever known was beginning- my life as Amenatsu- myself.

The cold ethereal surroundings eased my mind. The people on Emperia were… pretty good looking. Well, I wasn’t less either. The others around paused to look at the new spacecraft. What would I say was my origin? How would I keep my past away from the eyes of these people. The people here were from various planets and mainly came hungering for finances. I came for adventure. Finances were not a problem. I had my funds from home. Still I wasn’t planning on being a spoilt brat.
I was out on my own. And I was alone. Trust me when I say that I had no idea how very alone.

“Sir, the accommodations here are only for those working in the western Emperia fields…”
I tried to concentrate on my conversation with the receptionist, though the beauty of the living quarters distracted me terribly.
“I plan on joining the Emperia fields, as working class. So…”
The receptionist smiled and handed me a key card. She handed me a small keyboard and swiveled the screen towards me.
“Please type in the details sir. We can give you a guest room. And you can go ahead to decide where you wish to work.”
I filled in the details and decided to ask her for some help.
“You see m’am, I’m new to this place, and I would be highly obliged if you could kindly direct me to someone who’ll…”

She rang a bell and a short man came running out of a door.
“My assistant here will take you to meet the prince of Emperia. The prince likes to meet new visitors personally. Please be ready to meet the prince in an hour.”
I thanked her profusely and allowed the porter to take my luggage to the guest room. I was tired. But I wanted to see what this prince would be like.
The walls were gentle wood as was the floor. The view outside was wonderful. A large swimming pool surrounded by various different furniture. The place was like a resort.
I shed my clothes and took them with me inside to wash up. Lucky me, I saw that the bathroom had a little machine for clothes and a dryer too. I had done enough training to know how to wash my clothes. But still, if the facility was available, why not use it!
I had a nice long bath with the scented soaps. It all smelt like the flowers from one of my training planets. Nostalgic.

By the time I reached the front porch, the little man was waiting patiently.
“Thank you for all your help, I’ll return by the evening. I must apologize for not asking your good name….” I spoke to the receptionist before going to the porch.
The receptionist simply smiled and handed me a card, “I’m Aisa. Don’t be surprised if you see me in the town area. This place has a small population.”
I bowed and turned towards the man. He had a ride arranged for us to go to the prince.
I realized that people were not used to a commoner behaving like a prince. Still, I was born a prince and no matter what, I wouldn’t behave otherwise.
The little man- Ka, was very polite and soft spoken. By the time we reached the Emperia Headquarters, I was totally awed by the beauty of the planet. But the planet was really small.

Ka and I walked up to the stately fort and signed in our names at the front register. There was no rush, no security, other than the electrical stuff. So in a few minutes we reached the prince’s office.
I heard Ka’s voice from behind just as the door opened, “Don’t anger him.”
Keeping that in my mind, I headed for the young prince. A beautiful and graceful lady sat near him examining some files.
“Ah! A new comer to Emperia! Welcome!”
He stood up and shook my hand. I didn’t know what to say, he was very princely.
“Please, have a seat.”
I sat after he had resumed his seat.

“I am a wanderer, and I wish to work here for some time. As a farmer.”
The prince nodded and indicated for me to continue.
“I was wondering if I could get a briefing about this system…. Considering I’ll be living here for at least a standard year.”
“Very well. There are three types of employments available- farming, manufacturing and errands.”
I glanced at the elaborate miniature of the system. He beckoned me to follow him towards the setup.
“As you can see, the planet is divided into two halves. The residential quarters are the dividing line between the two halves.”
I recalled the lovely resort like guest room I had got back there. And I also noted that my cloaks from home were of a much better quality than his.

“This half, where you can see factories and store houses is for the manufacturers. The other half, the colored half, belongs to the farming people. Based on your preferences, and your finances, you’ll receive your residential quarters.”
Not much about the work, but still, I could manage. The prince next handed me a thick booklet.
“To become a farmer, there’s not much. Pure labor and enjoyment….”
I piped up, “Is there any scope for research as a farmer?”
The prince smiled and his features seemed all the more handsome.
“Sir, may I ask you something?”
I nodded, “With ease sir.”
The prince turned around and said in a low voice, “I’m from Jerome. And I’m a clairvoyant. What exactly are you trying so hard to hide from me?”
