Finding the Perfect Nanny Job in Your Area

With are so many career fields today to chose from. Picking the right one may be perfect for you, but if there are going to be children involved, there may be some issues regarding child care. We all want our children well cared for, and while you regular daycare provides adequate services for most people, some may find that they either need, or prefer someone that is going to more like family, and who will be with the children on a regular basis. If this sounds like a good fit for you, the perfect nanny job may be just around the corner.

Parents are working more and more these days, trying to fill the needs of their company, as well as grabbing that golden ring that tells the world how successful they have been. But working this hard comes at a price, and many times, children pay that price. Parents careers often demand that they travel more, which often takes them away from their children. This can be disruptive to the kids, and make it emotionally difficult on the parents.

A good nanny will be well trained and will easily blend in with the family she is working with. The children will learn to view her as a family member and, although she does not take the place of mom, she can often fulfill some of the demands that mom does not have the time to do.

Nannies can set up schedules, get the kids off to school, pick them up and hurry them to the extra curricular activities that they have after school. They can make sure that their home work is finished, baths are taken, dinner is provided and tucked into bed with a wonderful bedtime story if need be. Nannies are the right hand of the busy parent when they are required to be elsewhere.

Although a nanny does not necessarily have to be trained, it is always a positive when interviewing for a job like this. To have some educational units under the belt such as childhood education classes, or even professional nanny training is something that parents who are looking for a nanny may want.

The great thing, and maybe the downfall for some, is that compassion, love and genuine concern usually is not something that is taught. It is a built in characteristic, and one that you either have or not. Good nannies are loving people, with huge hearts, boundaries and flexible personalities. They are people who care for the most precious possession a parent has.

Taking care of children is something most people can do, but not all people do well. Being a nanny is a very important job and one that parents take very seriously. Many things will need to be discussed while interviewing for a job like this, from hours to be worked, to how discipline will be handled. While you will need to be clear on what is expected from you, you will also need to be honest with the parents hiring you and let them know your expectations.

Finding the perfect nanny job can be easy if you are the right person for the position. Working as a nanny can be one of the most rewarding jobs, and one that many times pay very well. It is important that the responsibility of the job is met, and that open and clear communication is shared with the parents. This is very much a job that will require a great level of trust.

You’re Ready For A Career Change

You finally did it. You made the decision to leave a career that makes you dread every Monday morning and pursue one that you feel is your true calling. Congratulations! Making the decision was the hard part, right? Unfortunately, no. You’ve convinced yourself that this is the right move…how do you convince everyone else? It’s time to work on your resume.

Resume writing for this situation can be challenging, to say the least. Why? Think about it for a moment – how do you go from a retail manager to a purchasing agent in a corporate environment? Or from an accountant to a salesperson? Not all career changes are that drastic, but you get the picture. Once you look at it from this point of view though, it makes you wonder how in the world you’ll get a job in a new field.

There are a number of things your resume has to portray to the reader:

• The skills that you learned and honed in your past jobs transfer to the one you are applying for.

• Your strengths and accomplishments compliment the field and position (or type) of position you are seeking.

• You can do something other than what you are currently doing.

So how exactly do you do this? How do you convince a potential employer that you have what it takes to meet and exceed the expectations for the job – no matter what previous jobs you’ve held in the past? One way is by writing a functional resume.

A functional resume is one that you don’t see nearly as often as the tradition chronological and combination ones. That’s because they are used when the situation for the job seeker is not ideal. Other instances may be returning to the workforce after a long period of time or job hopping. A functional resume is used when it wouldn’t be as effective as if you had a solid work history, no gaps in employment and are looking for a job similar to the one you are currently in, if not a step-up.

Your resume may start out with an executive profile or summary of what you have done in the past and what you are looking to do in the future. This is the time to really “talk yourself up”. You do not want to modest.

An example might be:
Accomplished and experienced professional with a 10-year proven record of developing accurate sales plans based on intensive analysis and communication with integral departments. Combines astute strategic and business skills with an impeccable work ethic and drive for success. Self-starter that is enthusiastic, forward-thinking and recognized as a peak performer.

How do you begin to write the body of your resume? Take all your achievements, strengths, education and/or training and write them down. Which ones can you group together under one heading? Headings could include:

• Leadership
• Financial Management
• Account Management
• Goal Setting & Achievement

Of course, these headings are just examples to get your own wheels turning. They will differ depending on your own experience and achievements.

As you are compiling your lists, keep in mind that you are writing for you new career, not your present or past ones. Present this valuable information in a compelling manner that shows how you can be a benefit to a company in your desired career. Use strong adjectives, verbs and keywords to really get your point across.

Now that you have the difficult part done, the next steps are easy. Include your work history, education and any other special training and/or skills that you deem important at the end of your resume. Even though the focus is on the main body of your resume, the other information needs to be on there for reference sake.

And that’s it! You’re done writing your resume. Hard work – yes, but well worth it when you consider what you are now able to tackle – a new job, a new career…a new life!

Nursing – CRNP and Other Advanced Practice Nurses

For those of you unfamiliar with this nursing designation, it stands for Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner. It is not a familiar term, such as the better known LPN or RN that we so often see on the nametags of our caregivers. Nonetheless, there are some 150,000 nurses in the United States with this prestigious CRNP designation. I say prestigious because in comparison, there are 2.6 million RNs working in the United States. This translates to roughly 1 in 18 nurses having the CRNP designation.

What’s so special about a CRNP, you may ask. To become a CRNP you must first obtain your Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree. That’s four years in college. Then you must continue your education for another 2 years to receive their Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) degree.

There are three other common APN designations: Clinical Nurse Specialists, Nurse Anesthetists, and Nurse-Midwives. The CNS gives one on one patient care and proficient examinations in one of many nursing specialties, such as emergency room care, oncology or pediatrics. NAs provide anesthesia and allied pre and post surgical care for a variety of diagnostic and surgical procedures. NWs provide initial care to women, including exams, pregnancy planning advice, prenatal care, assistance with childbirth and neonatal care.

Back to the CRNP and the role they play. The primary functions of the Nurse Practitioner as taken from the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners standards for practice are:

* Provide primary health care services to individuals, families, groups of clients, and communities
* NP care is characterized by an emphasis on health promotion and disease prevention
* NPs may order, conduct, and interpret appropriate diagnostic and laboratory tests and prescribe pharmacological agents, treatments, and non-pharmacological therapies
* Educating and counseling individuals and their families regarding healthy lifestyle behaviors

The CRNP may be one major player in reducing health care costs. The role played by Nurse Practitioners is completely in tune with current health care philosophy, which embraces the importance of prevention. The CRNP is also trained to deliver primary health care services, which could easily address the shortage of physicians we face in rural communities, small towns and our inner cities.

Other factors to consider as our population and health care delivery systems mature, are increases in outpatient surgeries, earlier hospital release following major surgery, the popularity of home health care and the emergence of home hospice care. These developments in health care will require the skill sets available in all advanced practice nursing fields.

The nursing profession is clearly evolving to meet our changing health care needs. Much in the way the General Practitioner of the past is now a rare breed, outnumbered by a pantheon of doctors specializing in everything from cancer to sports medicine, the RN of today may become the nurse equivalent, overwhelmed by advanced nurse practitioners specializing in fields as diverse as their physician counterparts.

Without a doubt, all four advanced practice specialties Nurse Practitioners, Clinical Nurse Specialists, Nurse Anesthetists, and Nurse-Midwives will be in high demand, particularly, as we have said previously, in areas such as urban inner cities and small rural communities.

How Can I Increase My Career Prospects on it and Accounting Industries Outside the USA

There are many people who want change scenery and travel to other countries in search of better job opportunities. Most of them wonder how can I increase my career prospects where I am going, not the new job. How can I get a better job than what I have? If you will be moving somewhere it is necessary that there be positive changes with the move.

If you are moving to Europe where different languages are spoken you must learn a bit of each before embarking on your trip. If you want to move to Germany then you should learn more German than any other language. You should know enough of the language to get around and make yourself understood. The rest you can learn on the way.

Before deciding on where you want to move to, it is important that you study the available options. Learn about each country and especially about the city where you want to live. Learn their history and the time they take tea and eat lunch. Find out about their train system and other transportation available.

Computer system vary, telephone systems change from continent to continent too. You must train in these simple matters before applying for a job. Your future employer must know that you are ready and willing to study and do whatever it takes to fit not only into the position but into the surroundings.

The language barrier may be the hardest one so it is important that once you decide where you want to go you start a course on it. There are fast courses you can take that teach you the basics and allow you to survive and make yourself understood in the given country. If you speak the language, half the battle is already won.

You must check with their embassy in the United States if it is possible for you to go work in their country and if there are any specific documents you must complete to do so. If you have conquered the language barrier you must study the way they work on your particular profession. Things are done differently in different places. It is a good idea to look at the big picture before staring at the small details.

Before attempting a permanent move, find out if there are courses or some sort of training you can get in your field in that country. It is always a good idea to test the waters before diving in. It is possible that your company will allow you to get training elsewhere and keep your job waiting for you. You will be paying for the training; all you want is for them to hold your job for a couple of weeks.

This way you will be able to experiment the working environment in the place where you want to live. You will be able to test the budget possibilities and you will get a chance to look around and hunt for a possible opportunity. Any foreign job experience looks good in a resume so go slow but constantly forward until you reach your goals.

Your Cover Letter Is You!

You might have been thinking how some executives and CEOs started their own cover letters? Can you really foresee someone’s possible position and achievement through their cover letters? These might be the questions lingering in the minds of fresh graduates. Well this I can tell you, they just had the proficiency to market themselves appropriately. I have been wondering why most colleges never even spent some time teaching their soon-to-be graduates the capability to write their cover letters? They taught you lots of craps which you might not be able to use entirely as you venture in the professional world. It’s such a shame that they forgot one of the most significant letters in the world that might eventually lead you to your success.

As previously mentioned, cover letters mainly contain as somewhat “self-marketing” of the applicant to his probable employer. Even though you are not applying for a related position you should understand that cover letters function that way. This marketing thingy is what would assist you to be one with them, but from here im going to warn you that marketing is way too different from exaggeration. There maybe a thin line but still the two concepts are distinct from one another. Marketing yourself through your cover letter means that you present your capabilities and yourself in such a manner that you would be able to stir up the interest of your employer. This is most probably the area wherein most applicants fail, and this is just where you need to excel. Whereas exaggeration would be equated to mere packs of lies which you can’t really offer the company.

Whether you believe me or not your cover letter is much like a mirror reflecting who you really are. Putting yourself on the shoes of your employer you won’t want someone imperfect for a position to be hired, and that’s exactly what I am aiming you to avoid. You don’t need to fool anyone and pretend to be well-informed you just have to be able to convey clearly your intent for their company and how functional you could possibly be for them.

An effective cover letter for you

It won’t be too much to ask if you’d obligate yourself to make inquiries regarding the background of your potential company. A brief history of their company, the progress or expansion they have made for the past months. Trust me; this would be very useful for you in the long run of your application. Not to mention that the details which you would acquire could also be used for your letter. So how does this help you? Simple, it would give a picture of your awareness and sheer interest with their company.

In addition to your research, it would be better for you to know to whom you’d address your letter. This mere action would display persistence and a sense of professionalism as it demonstrates your willingness to go further just to obtain the job.

Be sure that your cover letter is just an introduction; it need not be an essay to which you would already narrate your whole life story. Being concise and professional enough as you write your cover letter is very important. You need to mention in the cover letter though how you get a hold of the job opening, some highlights of your abilities which are related to the position you are eyeing for. As you finish your cover letter, make sure to proofread it for errors.

How To Start A Career In The Computer Field

If you’re considering a career working in Information Technology – a fancy way of saying “working with computers” – congratulations! I can tell you from personal experience that it’s one of the best decisions you’ll ever make. I can also tell you from personal experience that it is never too late to begin!

I started my IT career 10 years ago, and it was a tough decision. I was 34 years old, and really knew next to nothing about computers. I decided to attend a technical school to get my career started, and it was the best decision I’ve ever made. Ten years later, I write ebooks and teach classes dealing with different facets of networking, I’ve earned the most difficult computer certification in the world, and I’ve never been happier. The same thing can happen for you.

As with any new venture, there are some things you have to watch out for, so I’m going to share my experiences with you in this new series of articles. I’ll tell you what worked for me, what didn’t work for me, and some tips and tricks on developing a fun, exciting, and financially rewarding career in Information Technology.

The first decision, and one of the biggest, is to decide what technical school to attend. If you think you can’t afford it, think again. Ask yourself this question: Can you afford not to go?

Almost every college and community college offers some kind of technical class, so look into those. For many of us, though, a technical college such as ITT or ECPI is a better bet. These colleges have more of a focus on technology, and can also help with job placement.

What you should beware with some technical schools is an unrealistic emphasis on how much money you’re going to make when you graduate. Some schools are fond of mentioning the MCSE Salary Survey, making it sound like you’re going to make $65,000 or more in your first IT job. I’m not saying that can’t happen, but it’s not very realistic for your first job. When you visit a school you’re thinking of attending, ask to speak to someone in the job placement department and ask them point-blank where they’ve recently placed graduates and the salaries at which they were hired.

Find out how many of the classes include hands-on labs. This should be close or at 100%. The only real way to learn about software such as Microsoft Server, or any computer hardware, is to really work with it. Just reading about it isn’t enough. Believe it or not, computer hardware and software doesn’t always work the way the books say it will!

You should also ask the school if any of their courses include preparing for computer certification exams. Professional certifications such as the CCNA, Network+, Security+, A+, and MCSE can be a huge boost to your career and your salary. We’ll talk more about that in the next installment of this series. In the meantime, stop dreaming about a computer career and start planning on how to make it happen!
