They will be even willing to extend your repayment period to allow you some leeway to pay back the money. Such benevolence was previously unheard of especially from credit card companies, who were always tough nuts when it came to repayments.

The recession however has broken their earlier stern resolve and made them more amenable to negotiation. A debt settlement is a legitimate way to go about resolving your financial situation and there is no need to depend on government grants to bail you out.

It is not your fault that no collateral was involved when you took out a loan from the bank for example. It is for the creditor to decide whether there should be collateral and if they deemed there was no need for it, not being repaid on time is their fault as they did not do their homework when they offered the loan.
