www.504Experts.com It’s officially been one year since the Small Business Jobs and Credit Act was passed into law. While some good has come from it, there are a few things that have been pretty ineffective so far. The two things that frustrate Chris Hurn, the SBA 504 Loan Expert, the most are the First Mortgage Lien Pool (FMLP) Program and the SBA 504 Loan Refi Program. You probably know that at Mercantile Capital Corporation we are not proponents of “big government” and increased regulations, but these two programs could be extremely effective when it comes to helping small business owners and the US economy. Plus, they have to do with the SBA 504 loan program which is a zero-subsidy program — it’s funded by borrower fees, not subsidized by the government. Right now, both the FMLP and the 504 Refi Programs are in need of our help. Ambassador Gabriel Silva, who served as Ambassador to the United States from 1993-94, will discuss U.S.-Colombia relations and how Colombia is changing under President Santos. Under the administration of President Santos, Colombia is forging a new path to prosperity, with policies promoting economic growth, national unity and social development. President Santos has also enacted reforms to protect human rights and provide relief to victims of violence. Ambassador Silva will address topics such as the importance the importance of the extension of The Andean Trade Preferences, the U.S.-Colombia free trade agreement, Colombia’s role in sharing lessons in security, and new areas of cooperation such as energy and the environment.

This event will address how the Department of State’s new diplomatic engagement framework is advancing US foreign policy in the Americas through constructive and meaningful “people to people” relationships, in addition to how the US government is embracing social media, digital engagement centers as well as other networking tools in this new framework towards Latin America. A panel discussion will explore the impact of social media and other new network technologies on politics, governance, media public diplomacy, and civil society in Latin American countries.
