Chilean Government Awards Hotel Management Software Team Innovation Grant

Chilean Government Awards Hotel Management Software Team Innovation Grant

SAN FRANCISCO, CA (PRWEB) October 31, 2011

Two of the original founders of hotel management software company Frontdesk Anywhere Inc Joe Kiernan and Thomas Lyle and a former lead user experience researcher at Google have been honored with an innovation grant from the government of Chile. The team is working to improve inventory distribution within the hospitality and travel spaces.

Start-Up Chile, a program created by the Chilean Government, was established to identify high-potential entrepreneurs and foster innovation. The program awards promising organizations a grant to further their work. Stanford University’s Center for Entrepreneurial Studies works closely with Start-Up Chile officials to screen the over 650 companies and organizations that typically apply in a session. Only the most innovative and promising teams are awarded the $ 40,000 grant.

The team believes that the ever lowering prices for technology along with people using the Web more and more in their daily lives is bringing about an opportunity to solve longstanding distribution issues in the travel industry. “Waypoint Labs is working to solve inefficiencies in the travel space that end-up costing companies, and thus travelers, hundreds of millions of dollars every year” said co-founder Thomas Lyle. Waypoint Labs is the name of the team used to represent them for the Start-Up Chile application.

“We are flattered that Start-Up Chile sees such promise in our approach and its potential to disrupt the status quo” said Joe Kiernan. “We’ve learned a lot over the past number of years building one of the leading web-based hotel management software systems and have a clear vision of where the industry is headed. We aim to be out in front leading that charge.”

Frontdesk Anywhere Inc. provides Web-based hotel management software that enables small- to mid-sized hotels and hotel groups to better manage sales and guest interaction processes. The constantly evolving platform is in high demand and continues to grow, with over 50 new properties signing up each month. A key component of its success has been in its innovative approach to hotel industry development. Its cloud-computing platform allows hotel teams to focus more on guests rather than their IT needs which, while important, is only a supporting element to their core business

Grants Canada, awards, and subsidies to provide funding assistance

Most of the young Canadians are now keen to engage themselves in some small businesses to earn good amount of money. Starting a business from the scratch is not easy. The most difficult part is to arrange the capital or funding. The small business grants Canada helps the young entrepreneurs to develop their own small business. Grants Canada offers different types of loan opportunities for small business developments.

There are some small business grants Canada offered by the Canadian government where the person or the business receives a specific amount of free money by making some percentage of personal financial contributions. In these cases, grants Canada provides only partial assistance to the beginners.

For example, grants Canada offers partial small business grants for the people living in the Toronto region. The Canadian government organizes Toronto Region Sustainability Program in order to decrease the intensity of pollution caused by the industries. The greenhouse gases, the toxic released by the industries in the air, and the sewers and the waste product of the industry cause heath hazards as well as damage the environment of the area. To stop this grants Canada offers small amount of loans for organizing training programs and campaigns for building up awareness among the local people, especially the youth. To encourage them to get involved in less polluting small industries, partial small business grants Canada is offered.

The aboriginals of Canada receive free money or non-repayable loans from the government organizations. Here also the applicant, who must have aboriginal background, has to make personal contributions up to a certain level. To get the small business grants Canada, an aboriginal youth has to have at least 15% of the total cash equity for investing in the entire project.

Though Grants Canada hardly find to offer a loan without putting any conditions, still there are some instances where small business grants Canada offers better loan opportunities. There are a few programs which provide funding for small businesses in the form of arranging training programs for mentors who can guided to identify success and failure. To get such supports, the person has to agree to make certain contribution as per need and must be committed.

The best of the small business grants Canada for the young Canadians is the one that the Self Employment Program offers. This is the only grant where supports are provided from the very beginning of the project. Right from the business planning to the development of the entire project, grants Canada provides assistance for the small business. The person who is eligible for Employment Insurance can get a generous amount of income support as well.

The students of 15 to 30 years of age, who live in Ontario region, are eligible to receive small business grants Canada which can go up to 00. The programs for young entrepreneurs also provide training and grants for running their own businesses in summers.

There are some programs to provide grants for the training of the farmers and their partners. This is not an outright grant. But the training they get helps to increase their income by improving their farms and productivity. The grants Canada helps the people to receive many non-repayable contributions, awards, subsidies which are as effective as any small business grants Canada.

Where the small business grants Canada offers only limited loan options grants Canada provides other opportunities like subsidies and contributions for better financial assistance.

Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation Awards $5 Million in Scholarships to 2011-2012 Academic Class

Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation Awards $ 5 Million in Scholarships to 2011-2012 Academic Class

Washington, DC (PRWEB) September 13, 2011

On September 13th, at its 2011 Scholarship Announcement Ceremony and Reception, the Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation will recognize more than 1,600 scholarship recipients and their Marine families – who are being awarded nearly $ 5 million for their higher education from the Foundation for this academic year.

The ceremony, which will be hosted by Gen Robert Magnus USMC (Ret), Chairman of the Board of Directors for the Foundation and Margaret B. Davis, President and CEO of the Foundation, and feature a keynote speech by Gen James F. Amos, 35th Commandant of the Marine Corps, comes as the Foundation prepares to celebrate its 50th anniversary year. During that time, the organization has provided over 26,500 scholarships valued at more than $ 65 milion.

23 student recipients will attend the ceremony. This year’s scholarship recipients represent all 50 states, and include children of Marines killed in action or wounded in combat. The Foundation provides needs-based scholarships to children whose parent has served in the Corps.

“We celebrate the achievements of our remarkable 2011-2012 class of students at this event,” said Davis. “As we reach our 50th year, we reflect on the life-changing opportunities that we’ve made possible for families of those who spend their lives protecting ours, and we look towards a future of continuing to honor Marines by educating their children.”

Over the past year, the Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation has raised nearly $ 15 million in scholarship contributions. At the Reception, two major announcements will be highlighted. The first is from Marine philanthropist Chuck Scianna, who is making a $ 2.5 million commitment to the Foundation. “When you invest in the Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation, you are not just giving money, you are investing in a young person’s dream,” noted Scianna. His donation is the largest amount received from an individual donor.

The second major commitment that will be highlighted is the Sergeant Dakota Meyer Scholarship Initiative, named after upcoming Medal of Honor recipient, Sgt. Dakota Meyer USMC. Sgt. Meyer will be in attendance to announce his commitment to raise $ 1 million by the Foundation’s 50th anniversary on May 28, 2012. He will also “Challenge America” to match his efforts by raising an additional $ 1 million.

“The Corps teaches us to keep faith with our fellow Marines and their families. This initiative does just that by helping to provide an education to children of Marines and to assist each of them in achieving their goals,” said Meyer, who will receive his medal on September 15, 2011, two days after the scholarship event. “Education paves the path to our future and I’m honored to lead this initiative working with the Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation. I hope, and challenge, all Americans to join me in this mission and support our Marine families.”

Additional presenters at the event include a representative from the U.S. Department of Education and SgtMaj Micheal Barrett, Sergeant Major of the Marine Corps. In addition, distinguished representatives from generous Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation donors such as Lockheed Martin, Toyota and BAE Systems are expected to attend the event to celebrate the scholars.

ABOUT THE MARINE CORPS SCHOLARSHIP FOUNDATION: The Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation is the nation’s oldest and largest provider of need-based scholarships to U.S. military families. Since 1962, the Foundation has provided more than 26,500 scholarships valued at over $ 65,000,000 to Marine Corps sons and daughters whose parents have been killed or wounded in combat or have demonstrated financial need. For the 2011-2012 academic year, the Foundation will provide more than 1,600 scholarships totaling nearly $ 5,000,000. The Foundation is proud to have been named by Independent Charities of America as ‘Best in America’ for demonstrating “the highest standards of public accountability, program effectiveness, and cost effectiveness.”For more information on the Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation please visit http://www.mcsf.org.

GetEducated.com Awards $1,000 Online College Scholarship to Three Core 4 Women Mothers

GetEducated.com Awards $ 1,000 Online College Scholarship to Three Core 4 Women Mothers

Burlington, VT (PRWEB) November 16, 2010

GetEducated.com awards free $ 1,000 online college scholarships to members of Core 4 Women, a non-profit distance learning forum. This fall, three winners were chosen to receive online college grants through the scholarships for women program.

GetEducated.com is the only consumer group dedicated to helping students rate, rank, and compare accredited online colleges and universities. Core 4 Women is a social networking site that provides opportunities for women to improve their lives through online education.

Rebecca Danielson, Regina White, and Cecilia Parmar are all mothers and advocates of distance learning. They are actively involved in the Core 4 Women community and devoted to their online studies.

Regina White, 42, is a member of the Athabascan Indian tribe in Alaska. She will use the distance learning scholarship to pursue a Bachelor in Social Work at the University of Alaska, Fairbanks. Although White suffers from a spinal condition and a hand disability from a work-related injury, she insists on moving forward with her degree.

“Regardless of these diagnoses, I will still graduate from college. It is faith and hard work that propel my dream,” says White. She has been on the Chancellor’s list since her enrollment in 2009, and strives to make the Dean’s list before graduating.

Rebecca Danielson works as an HR Recruiter in Fairview Heights, Illinois. She pursues a Bachelors degree in Business Administration / Human Resource Development at Baker College Online.

Danielson explains, “As a full-time working mother, I am very limited in my availability to take classes in a traditional classroom setting. The flexibility of my schedule is one of the greatest benefits. Without that option, I am not confident that a bachelor degree would be attainable.”

At 32, Danielson has three daughters who are eight, seven, and five years old. Danielson aims to be a good role model and an inspiration for her family. Her husband is a volunteer firefighter, a full-time communications manager, and also pursues his bachelor degree through online courses.

Cecilia Parmar, 42, works as an Administrative Assistant in Monroe Township, New Jersey. She will use the free online scholarship toward a Masters in Library and Information Science.

Parmar has always been fascinated by archival studies, but with constant changes in her work schedule and her daughter’s school schedule, she feared traditional on-campus classes would interrupt the balance in her lifestyle.

“I knew that I could not move to attend graduate school. My family, work and responsibilities lay firmly where I live,” says Parmar. In the spring of 2007, she discovered San Jose State University’s distance learning programs for library science. After maintaining her studies for over three years, Parmar sums up distance learning in one word: “practical”.

Parmar obtained her first masters in Humanity through the online program at California State University, Dominguez Hills. She is excited to complete her second graduate certificate and hopes to achieve a doctorate degree in the future.

GetEducated will continue to offer scholarships to Core 4 Women members; visit Core4Women.org for more information. Further details about the Core 4 Women Online Scholarship are available at GetEducated.com. The next deadline for the women in distance learning scholarship is March 15, 2011.

GetEducated also offers Excellence in Online Education Scholarships to U.S. citizens enrolled in online universities who maintain at least a 3.0 grade point average. The deadline for this distance learning scholarship is also March 15, 2011.
