Child Support Help For Single Moms

Child Support can be an emotional topic for mothers. Taking care of their children is at the top priority at any parent’s list. But when it comes to single moms, their lives usually always revolve around those of their kids. In such situations, not being able to take care of your children might be heart breaking and depressing for single parents.

Many mothers don’t file for Child support because they don’t know how to, or because they might just be afraid of their children being taken away. But what they don’t know is that that there is a world of resources out there just waiting for them.

Instead of seeking child support from your child’s father directly, it is advisable that you do so through court. Not only does that make the father keep the payment amount consistent, but the court can also force him to fulfill his obligation if he slacks behind for some reason.

Going through court means that you will have to retain an attorney. But it also means that the process will be much quicker and more transparent.

Going through an agency is also an option. It costs nothing, but can take a lot longer. Also, agencies cannot force your ex if his payments fall behind. If child support is paid through courts, a person’s income tax refunds can be seized to contribute to the arrearage. The court guarantees that your child gets what he deserves.

But the economic times are tough. Sometimes, both parents are experiencing financial difficulties that may result in a downward modification of the payments. This is one of the scariest challenges for single moms everywhere.

Not being able to work and a decrease in child support payments means that you will have to find other ways of making ends meet. Sometimes state agencies are the only option. However, you also have other options, and those are:

Aid to Family’s with Dependent Children (AFDC)
This is a federally funded program to assist parents with children less than 18 years of age. The children should be living in your home and you should comply with the program’s financial requirements. There is a five year limit to the assistance you can get. So, you can only stay of AFDC’s payroll for five years. The payments are calculated based on the amount of income already coming into your household.

Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT) Scheme:
This is like food coupons, but better! An EBT card is like a credit card that accrues grocery money into your account. So when you go grocery shopping, you can pay with an EBT card then enter your PIN and pick up your groceries. The amount of money sent to your account, however, depends on how much you qualify for.

Hud Housing
Low income housing can also help you save hundreds by limiting your mortgage payments. Hud housing assists individuals with low income rental or to purchase housing in your own local communities. Visit them at Hud.com to see if you can qualify.

There are many other places that can help you shoulder your burdens of raising a full family. Try YMCA, Chamber of Commerce and Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) for more solutions.

As mothers, we spend most of our time feeling guilty. And in circumstances like these, the guilt of not being able to give our children everything they need becomes paramount. But don’t stress too much and just hang in there. Kids are amazing creatures, and if you love them enough, they will turn out just fine in any case.

Returning to Work: What New Moms Need to Know about Hiring a Nanny

New moms who work outside of the home will likely find that during their pregnancy and maternity leave, they will need to begin looking into hiring a nanny for their return to the job. Nannies have several advantages over daycare, but the idea of hiring a nanny may also bring with it a great deal of anxiety and concern for the new mother. However, hiring a nanny does not need to be traumatic, and in fact can mean expanding one’s family to include a loving caregiver for a new baby.

Common Fears

One of the most common fears a new mother is likely to have about nannies is that this person they have brought into their home will run away with the baby or will harm the baby in some way. This is simply not the case. While there have been notable high-profile cases in years past of problematic caregivers, the truth is that the overwhelming majority of nannies are kind, caring people who will treat their charges as if they were their own children.

Another fear that new mothers may have about nannies is that their children will grow more attached to the nanny than to the mother herself. While it is true that a nanny for the child of a mother who works full time may spend a great deal of time with the child, she will never take the place of the mother. In fact, it is a sign of a good nanny if the children come to care for her greatly – the alternative, a nanny that the children do not like at all, is hardly ideal.

The Hiring Process – Where to Begin

The best way to abate any fears such as these is to make sure that all nannies are carefully screened throughout the hiring process. Whether the new mom is going through a nanny agency, which will handle the screening for her, or is investigating nannies on her own, this step is critical. When hiring a nanny for a newborn, look for a candidate that has worked with newborns or infants in the past. Nannies with experience with older children may be acceptable candidates, but hiring a nanny with more specific experience with a baby can be helpful. Nannies with newborn experience also are more likely to come prepared with the endless calm and patience that is required to get through many hours with a baby.

Interviewing the Nannies

Once the pool of nannies has been narrowed down to a select few candidates, the parents of the child should interview each nanny multiple times. If possible, the parents should bring the newborn or baby to at least one interview to see how the nanny interacts with him or her. If the mom is still pregnant at the time of the interviews, this will of course not be possible. In such a case, checking references will be even more critical.

Checking Nanny References

Checking references of nannies is a step that many people may be tempted to skip because it can be time consuming. However, by checking a nanny’s references, a new mom may feel more at ease about hiring the candidate. Bear in mind that a nanny’s references will nearly always be other moms, so the new mom can feel comfortable asking questions and feeling out the answers mother to mother.

Before You Make the Final Decision

Finally, before hiring any nanny, you should make sure she has the proper legal documentation as required by Federal I-9 guidelines. You can also request that any nannies you are considering provide documentation of a negative TB test (or take a test if she hasn’t done so already) as well as any other medical tests or immunizations recommended by your family doctor.

Once You Have Hired the Nanny

After the hiring process is complete and a nanny has been selected, the new mom can still take further precautions to protect herself and her child. One of the best things to do, if scheduling allows, is to have the nanny start before the mom goes back to work. Getting to know the nanny in this manner can do wonders for making the new mom feel at ease and can also help ease the transition for the baby.

Once the mom is back at work, she might want to stop by at home unannounced a few times in the first few weeks to see what is really going on. She will almost certainly be greeted by a happy nanny and baby, but she can also catch any problems before they worsen. For a more concerned mother, a nanny cam can be installed in the home (without telling the nanny) to catch any misbehavior.

Above all, it is important for the new mom to try to relax. This can be difficult, but the truth is that a relaxed mom will make both the children and the nanny feel relaxed, which can ensure a pleasant relationship between everyone.

Conclusion

Returning back to work can be difficult for a new mom as she will have to leave her child with someone else for the first time. However, by carefully searching through a pool of nannies to find the best candidate for her family – through interviews, reference checking, and other procedures – the mom can feel comfortable with the person she has chosen to watch her baby. Remember that most nannies are very honest and reputable and that a great nanny can become a loving member of your extended family.

New Scholarship Program for Moms

There are many good reasons why Americans will never regret the election of Barack Obama as President of America. First reason is that of equality; a person of color occupying the highest post of the country clearly shows that the United States is country of equal opportunities and those who work hard will be rewarded by society. Another reason, which should be for women, is that Obama’s government is taking the advancement of women rights to another level by offering them financial aid to get educated.

After coming into office, Obama has come out with a scholarship program for women. It is expected that under this program, most women in America will become highly educated individuals who will be better able to play their roles in society.

The program has made available funds totaling several millions of dollars to be disbursed to women who enroll in college or university. There are no strings attached to the funds: if you are a woman and an American citizen of 18 years and above, you are basically qualified to receive the fund if you apply. The only thing that prevents you from receiving the funds is when you are not enrolled for any program of study.

There are no proposals to write about this. Just apply and get the money for your education. You are allowed to spend the money on any thing that concerns your higher education. You can use it to cater for your accommodation, transportation, utilities and any other expenses. Mothers are allowed to spend it on their children upkeep.

With this program Obama has truly proven his love and support for the women of America and for this he will forever be remembered.

I know how hard it is to go back to school so I did some research for you.

Moms Can Attend College Thanks To Obama And His Grants And Scholarships

Moms are being urged by the new president Obama to return to college. President Obama has created Scholarships for Moms to help them deal with the poor US economy by attending college. Moms can now obtain a larger $5,500 Federal Pell Grant to begin the college journey. With the grant increase more moms can apply for higher college degrees. The cost of moms attending college is also being aided with other various denomination scholarships created by the President. The economy will become stronger with more moms working because in part of the $5500 Pell grant that made it possible for them to attend college, get a good degree and enter the job market. Trying to juggle time and money for the busy single mom makes the decision to sign up for the on line option the obvious choice. Moms can go to class when the timing is right. Certified classes are available at city colleges as well at full colleges and universities along with on line educational sites that specialize in degree programs.

Many moms will be eligible for a $10,000 scholarship even if they can not get the Pell grant. Due to the popularity of this program, only a select amount of moms who register will be receiving the scholarship. Back to school moms require the scholarship money to offset the numerous expenses of going to college. Along with allowing Americans the opportunity to achieve a higher education, this will help stimulate the deteriorating economy. Most Moms will need their own money plus the $10,000 scholarship fund to pay for all the college expenses which helps the economy by investing in the education sector. In corporate business the degree determines the job and future advancement. Anyone, especially single moms obtaining a college degree resulting in a better job should be commended for raising their own and their kids standard of living. There is certainly a positive aura surrounding this program.

Moms can dream of a richer and better time ahead when enrolling in college because of the help of the scholarship program. The connotation is that your home is your castle and every mom wants her castle. A higher degree and a better stable job make it possible for a single mom to afford a home and all the costs. When the moms scholarship program gets rolling the overall shape of the US economy will show progress.

Most moms might shoot down the idea of college right away because of the high price tag, but with a $10,000+ discount, it seems a lot more reachable. Obama rejuvenating the moms scholarship and grant program has contributed to making better, wiser and more educated moms able to take care of their families and building a bridge to the business world. Moms need to register to be eligible for the monthly drawing that determines the scholarship winners.

Moms, especially single moms know how hard it is to go back to college. I Moms going to college while raising a family on a tight budget, no way, but stop and think what are my options, then drop everything and register now, you could be the next winner.

Due to these chances, a lot of moms return to school to make use of these scholarships and their benefits.
If you are a mom who is hoping to attend college and eventually become a professional, the government has good news for you: more scholarships are being provided for moms; hence, now would be a good time to pursue your college education. The benefits that are being provided to moms who are attending college have also increased. Instead of solely depending on student loans or your salary, you can now make use of this financial assistance coming from the government.
Today, moms return to school to equip themselves with the right amount of knowledge to become more competent in various industries, most especially those fields which are heavily dominated by male workers. Moms are also returning to college to earn a college diploma which could help them find better jobs in the future. If you are a mother with little or no idea about the best scholarships for moms to apply for, here are 5 of the most common programs which you should check out:
FAFSA Grants– Nothing beats FAFSA Grants. FAFSA Grants are one of the best government-sponsored scholarship programs since they offer more benefits, are more flexible and cater to all types of applicants. There are FAFSA grants for married and unmarried women, single moms, single dads, as well as people belonging to the minority. If you apply for a FAFSA grant, you are technically applying for several other types of scholarship programs under FAFSA.
Project Working Mom– The Project Working Mom is a scholarship program for women who are sole breadwinners of their family. It is also a group that assists women with getting a scholarship degree and study at home instead of going to a university. This is perfect for those who work at home or those who tend to their children full time.
Pell Grant– Perhaps the second best scholarship program is the Pell Grant. The Pell Grant provides the most generous scholarship allowance and it is also easy to apply for. It is sponsored by the government, just like FAFSA grants.
Women’s Opportunity Awards– The WMA is sponsored by the Soroptimist. It empowers women to be part of industries where there are more male workers.
The Jeannette Rankin Foundation– In order to qualify for the Jeannette Rankin Foundation grant, you need to have proof that you belong to a low-level income family.
