Tetanus Vaccine Side Effects

Tetanus is a medical condition, characterized by a severe contraction or spasms of the skeletal muscles caused by the neurotoxin, released by the baterium, Clostridium tetani. The neurotoxin released by this bacterium is known as ‘ tetanospasmin’. This toxin acts on the neuromuscular junction (the site of interaction between the muscle fibers and the nerves) to amplify the signals sent by the nerves to the muscle, which results in prolonged localized or generalized muscle spasms or contractions. This condition often causes muscle spasms in the jaw, causing the jaw to be locked. The bacteria responsible for causing tetanus can enter the body through deep contaminated wounds or any break in the skin. The disease is more commonly associated with rusty nails. This is because, rusty metal objects provide a favorable condition for the endospores of C. tetani bacteria. Tetanus shot or vaccine is primarily used to prevent tetanus and its serious complications. However, like any other vaccines, a few tetanus vaccine side effects can be expected, which are usually not very serious in nature.

What is Tetanus Vaccine

Tetanus vaccine was first produced in the year 1924, and later it was combined with diptheria toxoid and inactivated pertussis vaccine, which are the component of DTP vaccine. Tetanus vaccine is not a live vaccine. Instead, it is basically an inactivated toxin, which is called toxoid. For making this vaccine, the bacteria are grown in a liquid medium, and the toxin released by them is inactivated or purified. This vaccine is given to children between 2 months to 6 years for immunization. However, booster doses are required, as the tetanus vaccine is not a live vaccine, for which the immunity against the disease decreases with time. The booster dose is usually recommended every 10 years. But, in the case of an injury or wound, the booster dose can be required before the completion of 10 years since the last vaccination with tetanus shot.

Tetanus Vaccine Side Effects

Most of the side effects of the tetanus vaccine are usually mild, and do not require medical attention. The most common side effect of this vaccine in both adults and children is pain at the injection site. The tetanus vaccine pain can be accompanied by soreness, swelling and redness as well. These are the most common tetanus vaccine side effects in adults and children. According to estimates, these tetanus shot side effects can be observed in approximately 75% of the adults, children and adolescents who receive this vaccine. Along with pain and mild swelling at the injection sites, some people can experience low grade fever, chills, fatigue, headaches, nausea and vomiting after getting vaccinated with tetanus shot.

The side effects mentioned above usually resolve within a few days. However, if side effects like, vomiting persist or worsen with time, and at the same time if you experience prolonged diarrhea and flu like symptoms, then be sure to inform your physician immediately. A fever as high as 102 degree Fahrenheit should also be reported to a physician, especially when it is accompanied by vomiting and dizziness. In general, the side effects like, prolonged diarrhea, vomiting and flu like symptoms are likely to be experienced by approximately one out of every hundred individuals who receive this vaccine.

The tetanus vaccine that is given to children is different from the one that is used for adults. The tetanus vaccine for children contains a diphtheria vaccine and pertussis vaccine. However, the side effects of these two vaccines are more or less similar to the tetanus vaccine side effects. But, children can additionally experience loss of appetite. This tetanus shot reaction is usually not observed in adults. Rarely, tetanus vaccine can be associated with severe side effects like, seizures, coma and allergic reactions. Allergic reactions can manifest in skin rash, itching, swelling, breathing difficulty, wheezing and dizziness. These are considered as the severe side effects of tetanus vaccine, which should be immediately reported to a physician.

By now, you must have got a fair idea about the tetanus vaccine side effects in children and adults. As far as the treatment of tetanus shot side effects is concerned, the mild side effects usually do not require any treatment. Mild nausea, vomiting and diarrhea also go away within a few days. However, if these symptoms persist, then it is advisable to seek medical attention. In general, tetanus vaccine side effects treatment depends on the severity of the side effects. Immediate medical attention is required in the case of severe allergic reaction and seizures and coma. Individuals with health problems like, asthma, as well as pregnant and breastfeeding women should consult a physician before taking tetanus vaccine. Similarly, individuals who have earlier developed allergic reaction to vaccination, and those taking any kind of medications should also talk to their physician prior to getting vaccinated with tetanus vaccine.

Messages From the Other Side!

Nowadays more and more people want to know what to expect when they die. They also ask me, “Where am I going to go when I die?” What is it like in spirit? Do we get to see people we loved? Do we get to meet other spirits? Do we have bodies? The list of questions goes on. Death is held as such a mystery that the only time most people embark on the voyage of self realization is when they are faced with the inevitability of their death.

What I would like to do here is share with you what I have learned about the afterlife based on my personal experiences in astral projection into spirit as well as channeling deceased loved ones and what they have to say about their lives in spirit.

I have been studying various religions and spiritual teachings for over 35 years. With all the knowledge that I have gained in that time, I was not sure of what it was really like in the spirit world. What started me to see the spirit world was my father. My father was comatose and being kept alive artificially on machines. This went against my personal beliefs because I knew that his body was worn out and that it was time for him to move on to spirit. I knew he was afraid of dying and out of desperation I did something I had never done before, I put myself into a state of hypnosis and I astral projected myself to him in his hospital bed.

Let me explain a little bit about astral projection which is taken from Wikipedia, “Astral projection (or astral travel) is an interpretation of any form of out-of-body experience (OOBE) that assumes the existence of an “astral body” separate from the physical body and capable of traveling outside it. Astral projection or travel denotes the astral body leaving the physical body to travel in the astral plane.

The idea of astral travel is rooted in common worldwide religious accounts of the afterlife in which the consciousness’ or soul’s journey or “ascent” is described in such terms as “an…out-of body experience, wherein the spiritual traveler leaves the physical body and travels in his/her subtle body (or dreambody or astral body) into ‘higher’ realms.” It is therefore associated with near death experiences and is also frequently reported as spontaneously experienced in association with sleep and dreams, illness, surgical operations, drug experiences, sleep paralysis, hypnosis, and forms of meditation.”

I had to do this in silence and completely alone; that is why I was not in the hospital to do this. I took his spirit by the hand and drew it out of his body, and led him into the spirit world. I was surprised at who greeted him at the entrance; it was his army captain from World War Two that he had thought the world of. I waited outside as his captain led him inside of the spirit world. I could hear many people talking and laughing. I did not know what they were saying because it was not important to me all that mattered was that my father was seeing what life was in spirit. After a while the conversation died down and he returned to where I was waiting. From there I took him back into his body. I knew at that point he had no fear of dying, and the next day he did pass away.

In less than twenty hours I woke up with my father screaming into my ear everything that he wanted me to know before he left the physical plane. It did not frighten me at all because I knew he had left without telling me many things. For the next three days he manifested himself where I could see his spirit.

Because of this I never again doubted that the spirit world was far more real then our physical world is. I know the reason I can see spiritual truths is because of my Native American heritage. We understand the spirits and honor them in everything we do. I started working as a clairvoyant, and clients would ask me if I could connect to a deceased loved one. The first time I did this I was not sure if I could, but it was a young man who had been killed in a motorcycle accident; and his mother wanted to talk with him. I was able to give her a description of everything that happened and what he wanted to tell her now. This was one of the most moving moments emotionally in my life. I knew I had helped this woman have a connection with her son, which would lead to her healing.

When I started doing clairvoyant work professionally I was asked to channel a deceased loved one and do it by e-mail. I did not know how I would be able to get answers without connecting to the person, but I took on the job and trusted that the Great Spirit would give me the answers.

It amazes me at the answers I receive, and as I am receiving them, I actually see what the deceased person is talking about. It is a magnificent experience for me. I feel that I get as much out of it as the person I am asking the questions for.

This message that I received is from the spirit of the sister of a dear lady who was having a lot of trouble dealing with her sister’s untimely death at a young age from cancer. She wanted to know how her sister felt and what was happening for her now that she was dead. This lady had been told by another psychic that she did not deserve answers from her sister, and it had nearly caused her to have a complete nervous breakdown. I related what I had gotten from her sister and wrote this message to her from what I saw, and then her sister spoke directly to her.

December 30, 2009

Dear Carmen:

There is absolutely no reason that you don’t deserve answers from Katie. You both had a very close bond and that does not end just because she has moved into spirit. I am surprised, than again not so surprised, that people would tell you such hurtful things.

I can tell that you have a very sweet sensitive spirit and God loves you.

To start off with I want you to know that people who have passed over are different in spirit. They may not remember or see things the way you do. Remember they are in a different dimension and have left behind the negative emotions that most humans carry. You can go to my web site and read about this in more detail in an article I wrote called, “After Life.” I just want you to understand because they are different than we are now. Someday we will be in the same liberty that they are.

As I started to connect with Katie I received the strangest message. She says here’s your little Kit Kat. I don’t know if she ever said this in life, but that’s what she feels now. She says she has been coming to you since her passing and has been trying to let you know that she is with you. She says that your grief has stopped her messages coming to you, that you would have normally been receiving such as in dreams, smelling her perfume or noticing curtains moving and electronics acting differently. It was the closeness of your relationship that caused such grief for you. Katie is not disappointed that you felt that way she knew it was going to hit you very hard. Don’t blame yourself for taking her death so hard. You loved her very much and that’s why it was hard. Grief takes however long it takes to subside. You will never stop thinking about her and you will be reunited in the spirit world.

She wants you to know that she is extremely happy and never has to suffer pain any more. She says it was your experiencing every step of her illness that tore you up.

Here’s an answer to your first question. How did you deal with your passing? Here are Katie’s answers.

“I was ready to let go. Those final breaths were my letting go of my physical body. Believe me the minute I was gone I was watching you and mom and I could see your pain, but I was experiencing total bliss. If I could have said anything to you to at the last moment it would’ve been, I love you. You both were the closest people to me and nobody loved me as much as you too. Others cared about me, but it wasn’t like what you two did.

Because of your being so sensitive my death really hit your heart hard, you don’t need to apologize for it any of your actions or thoughts. You have nothing to be forgiven for. I think the best way for you to be able to handle death is to realize that it’s passing from one life to another. We shed off our bodies like a snake gets rid of its old skin. And we are truly born again in the presence of Divine Love.

The more you let go of your grief you will find me coming into your dreams. At night before you go to sleep pray and ask the angels to bring me to you. In the morning have a pen and paper by the bed and write down what ever you get. Keep this as a journal and in time you will start seeing my messages coming through.

At night I walk around your bedroom and I sometimes sit on your bed holding your right hand. If you ever feel a sensation on your right hand whether you’re asleep or awake Realize it’s me connecting with you.

You’re going to start finding the pain easing in your heart. I love you dearly and please tell mom the same thing. Let her see this message because it may bring up some experience is she has had with me and didn’t realize it was me.

I look forward to being reunited with you and everyone in the family in spirit.

I love you,

Katie”

After I sent Carmen this message, she wrote me back that the nick name I received was absolutely the one that they called her sister. She could not believe everything that I had gotten after the terrible experience she had before with the other psychic. Carmen verified that she knew it was her sister speaking to her because of the way she addressed everything she was feeling. This was an interesting experience because I kept hearing that nick name over and over. This message gave Carmen peace of mind and she has been able to go forward without so much pain in her heart.

When we pass into spirit we do not instantly gain all knowledge and become filled with wisdom. There is a learning curve and we keep learning in spirit. Think of death as birth of your soul.

I have found through my experiences of going into spirit and speaking with the deceased that there is life after death, and what I do in this life affects what happens in the next one, it is the law of Karma. It is comforting to know that life does go on, and that one can always learn, grow, and develop spiritually. The detail about everything in the spirit world does not matter. What does make a difference is the belief that any one of us can make an effort to be of service to others, to love, to develop spiritually, and to work toward oneness with God/The Divine Spirit.

Low Dose Birth Control Pills Minimize Side Effects

Today’s birth control pills have been designed to contain much lower doses of synthetic hormones than in the 1960′s when ‘The PILL’ (with 50 micrograms of estrogen) first went onto the market. The reason for this is to reduce the side effects of hormonal contraceptives. “That’s still not helped me much”, you may be saying but here’s some information about low dose birth control pills that may help you to have a productive ( no pun intended!) discussion with your doctor if you’re not happy with your current birth control pill.

Trial and error with different pill types is worth pursuing -bearing in mind that oral contraceptives are still not the perfect method of birth control for everyone. If you are on the ‘right birth control pill’ to suit your body, you should feel exactly the same way as you do normally, if not a little better. Some women cannot tolerate the estrogen in combined low does pills so are prescribed progestin only pills. Estrogen seemed to be the main culprit where side effects were to blame so ‘low dose birth control pills’ were developed to minimise these.

Pills containing 0.02mg- 0.035mg.of estrogen are classed as ‘low dose’ pills.

Here are some brand names of “low dose” birth control pills :

LoOvral contains 0.03 mg ethinyl estradiol and and 0.3 mg nogestrel
Nordette contains 0.03 mg ethinyl estradiol and 0.15 mg levognorgestrel
Ortho-Cept (Reclipsen, Solia) contains 0.03 mg ethinyl estradiol and 0.15 mg desogestrel
Desogen contains 0.03 mg ethinyl estradiol and 0.15 mg desogestrel
Levlen21 contains 0.03 mg of ethinyl estradiol and 0.15 mg of levonorgestrel
Seasonale/Seasonique contain 0.03mg of ethinyl estradiol and 0.15 mg of levonorgestrel

YASMIN and YAZ are two more low dose birth control pills containing 0.03 mg and 0.02 mg respectively of estrogen but they have a different type of progestin from the other pills called drospirenone (3.0 mg).Yasmin may not be suitable for you if you also take other over-the-counter pain relievers, potassium sparing diuretics, potassium supplements or specific medications so you MUST check this out with a physician first.

Changing hormone levels within your body can result in side effects which vary for every individual.
Keeping hormones at a consistent level in your body is the job of oral contraceptives so that you do not ovulate, your uterine lining thins and your cervical mucous thickens. These three events work together to prevent pregnancy.

Pills such as ALESSE and MIRCETTE are called ‘ultra low dose’ pills as they contain only 0.02mg of estrogen. These oral contraceptives are effective at preventing pregnancy but some women find that they have more spotting and breakthrough bleeding with them than with pills containing 0.03mg or 0.035mg. (considered the norm today) of estrogen. Spotting and breakthrough bleeding often disappear after a few months on a low dose birth control pill.

0.02mg of estrogen is sufficient for contraception but the side effects of spotting and breakthrough bleeding are more common with these types of ultra low dose birth control pills than with low dose birth control pills containing 0.030mg or 0.035mg of estrogen.

Women who prefer ALESSE ((Aviane,Lessina,Lutera,Sronyx) and MIRCETTE say they reduce headaches, mood swings, breast tenderness and bloating. These two brands also may be better for ‘first timer pill users’ as a ‘low estrogen start’ to introducing synthetic hormones into their bodies.

You’ve probably heard of Progestin only pills or ‘mini pills’

These oral contraceptives are 90-95% effective at preventing pregnancy compared to the 99% efficacy rate of combination pills. However, they do not cause the common side effects of estrogen pills such as nausea, breast tenderness and cramps. The risk of developing deep vein thrombosis and cardiovascular disease is lower with progestin only pills. Nursing mothers can use progestin only pills a few weeks after giving birth as progestin does not affect milk supply like estrogen does.

‘Mini pills’ must be taken every day at the same time with no break. If you miss just one pill or take it more than three hours past the regular time, you need to use a backup method of birth control for 48 hours after taking the late pill.

Disadvantage of the ‘mini pill’ – apart from irregular spotting and breakthrough bleeding, is that it can increase the risk of ovarian cysts and ectopic pregnancy.

Latest Update

Low-dose birth control pills may increase risk for heart attack or stroke, especially in women who suffer from polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) or metabolic disorder. However, this risk disappears when you stop taking the low dose birth control pill (according to a Virginia Commonwealth University study published in the July issue of the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism). PCOS is a condition that can affect a woman’s menstrual cycle, fertility, hormones, insulin production, heart, blood vessels and appearance.

“Despite the doubling of risk associated with the pill, the absolute risk for a cardiovascular event in an individual woman taking the pill is low – Women using the pill are not going to automatically have a heart attack,” states John Nestler, M.D., professor and chair of the Division of Endocrinology and Metabolism in the VCU School of Medicine. “However, our findings do raise the issue of whether oral contraceptives are optimal therapy for certain groups of women who are at baseline risk or who are taking the pill for a longer time, such as women with PCOS.”

So if you don’t have PCOS and you think a low dose birth control pill may suit you better, read more about Alesse and Mircette before asking your doctor which brand would ‘suit’ your own medical history. Don’t forget to tell him/her which other medications you are also taking. The on line suppliers I have recommended (on my website) are accredited and also offer the best prices. Goodbye, Good Times. Now Labour Has to Show Just Whose Side It is on

Boredom is both the most creative and the most destructive force. It makes us human: animals don’t need progress and change, but humans do – from the trivia of ever changing fashion to politics where victory goes to the newest forward thinking. Boredom may be the death of labor, killed by a primal yearning for the shock of the new.

That’s why Gordon Brown promised “change” 27 times in his first prime ministerial speech. It’s also why yesterday’s program of legislation leading us right through to November 2009 didn’t cut the mustard. One long yawn greeted this worthy package of mostly reasonable policies.

Meanwhile, Mervyn King didn’t just rain on Brown’s parade, he took a fire hose to it. With one great swoosh it was goodbye to the good times, here comes the deluge. It hasn’t quite hit yet – but every week a darker cloud looms. Only two weeks ago Brown said interest rates were due to be cut: King, the Bank of England governor, told us to expect no such thing. Employment is up, says the government; but this week’s figures show unemployment rising. Oil is at $125 a barrel, with $200 threatened, while in Labour’s early days it was $11. Inflation is running at over 4%. Gordon Brown is not a lucky general.

But he makes his own bad luck too – and voters know it. His reputation as a good steward of the economy has taken a beating. His 10p tax band is parked for now – but only parked like a bulldozer in the middle of Labour’s drive. More evidence that he was advised against it does more damage. But the lasting damage is wasting much of that £2.7bn compensation on basic-rate taxpayers who have just had a 2p tax cut anyway. The money should have been taxed back from the top 1% who have done so well in the past decade. Impossible, say ministers, Labour’s manifesto promised no income-tax rise. But what of Keynes’s famous dictum? When the facts change, it’s time Brown changed his mind. It’s not hard to write the speech that calls for belt-tightening for those with the widest girths.

Take housing: it was to have been his great centerpiece policy. Fewer houses have been built under labor than at any time since the war, and he was going to put it right. But he can’t keep repeating that he’s building 3m homes when he never was: he just hoped developers would. He said it again yesterday despite new figures showing housing starts down by 24%. He can’t pretend that taking £200m, already allocated for social housing, to buy unsold new flats will magically kick-start the housing market when that only buys a thousand homes. Should his policy re-inflate a bubble market anyway? But consider how many houses that £2.7bn would have built. He could have been the new Macmillan of large-scale home-building.

What should the good government do when facing hard times? Make sure the pain falls as fairly as possible on everyone. It is plain wrong economics to claim that holding down public-sector pay is what has kept inflation down. An Incomes Data Services (IDS) report finds no such connection. Inflation now is caused by energy and food prices. Holding public-sector pay to 2.5% for what will be five years will have little effect – except to squeeze the low-paid, while private-sector pay rises twice as fast. IDS reckons that under that kind of pressure, the pay deals won’t stick to 2010: they are “untenable”. Meanwhile, King says that real take-home pay has risen by “well below” 1% in four years, while the minimum wage this year again rises by less than inflation. These, remember, are Labour’s core voters who are hurting most, the people who spend the highest proportion of income on food and fuel.

That might be politically survivable if labor could honestly say the pain was fairly shared. That’s exactly what European finance ministers debated fiercely on Wednesday. Executive pay was, said the EU monetary affairs commissioner, “scandalous” when so many employees have their pay pegged in the name of keeping inflation down. Luxembourg’s prime minister, who chairs the Eurozone finance ministers, said these “excesses” in pay and bonuses were “a social scourge” that had fueled the banking crisis. Germany and the Netherlands are introducing new taxes on high bonuses, pressing for EU-wide action. Germany urges a €1m ceiling on what a company can deduct from tax for any employee’s pay. Britain, of course, will have none of it, and Alistair Darling sat through the debate in silence. When Brown introduced his policy package as a recipe for “opportunity-rich Britain”, one labor wag remarked that Britain was indeed a land of opportunity for the rich.

It will be the economy, stupid. Most of all it will be how he rides the storm, and how fairly he is seen to share its effects. Brown’s policy package this week is decent enough, building on what labor has done best. The right to flexible working for 4.5 million more mothers shows an understanding of the difference it makes to juggling children or elderly parents. The right to time off for training could help a million people get new skills, while agency workers – after years of labor resistance – at last get equal rights. A new sentencing commission will curb the hyperinflation of imprisonment. (Sadly the insistence on 42-day detention will blow away that liberal thought.) Health, schools and welfare look solid too, though we wait for details. But this eclectic ragbag doesn’t say what Brown is for: the Tories say they’ll sign up to most of it. It certainly doesn’t prepare a country politically for two harsh economic years.

Brown’s strategy is to calm nerves, keep going and earn respect for sheer resilience under fire. Survive the hysteria of this mad moment and soon everyone will look back bemused. Doggedness will do it. But it’s hard to find many outside the inner circle who think it enough – and maybe even they doubt it.

When he said yesterday that “It is more important than ever that the direction of the government is clear and decisive”, it only reminded us how rudderless he looks, zigzagging through thick fog. The cabinet likes the slogan “On your side”. But the question it raises is on whose side? The boardroom bonus winners (latest figures show their pay has hardly dropped) just do not have the same interests as the 90% of citizens on basic-rate tax. If a labor chancellor can sit silently through a debate on curbing the grotesque excess that has caused ordinary people’s mortgages to rise, with repossessions looming – whose side is labor on?

Governing is heavy work compared with the free-thinking joys of opposition: ministers can’t toss policies in the air like confetti. Experience is valuable but it burdens ministers with knowing how much heavy lifting it takes to make small change. Administrations are thrown out when they become ossified by the sheer bloody complexity of everything, and Brown’s Queen’s speech program hints at this disease.

Meanwhile, until the by election, the big question is suspended. Whether it’s better to dump him or keep him is in abeyance. But if the Crewe result is as bad as feared, expect the dumpists to get vocal again. Remember, it’s not just some 130 backbenchers, but senior cabinet ministers – Jackie Smith, Ed Balls and James Purnell among them – with seats at risk at the next election.
