Toronto, ON (PRWEB) November 11, 2010

The Ryerson Commerce Society (RCS) at the Ted Rogers School of Management, Ryerson University, is proud to have become one of the first Canadian business school councils to launch a new and innovative mobile application that provides students with instant access to campus information from their smart phones.

Annette Lawrence, Vice President of Administration and Operations, RCS, Ryerson University, is thrilled with the CampusCurrent technology now available to all RCS students. “Most students are utilizing smartphone technology and have very busy schedules,” says Lawrence, “with students now being able to access all campus events, and information in this medium, on their schedules, we expect higher student participation and a stronger campus environment.”

After downloading the free application, each commerce student will be able to instantly access campus events, academic dates, phone directory and news on their BlackBerry and Android Devices (with Apple devices soon to follow).

This is a new mobile application to Canada, one which will be utilized by various post-secondary schools across Ontario in the coming months, thanks to the strategic sponsorship and alliance with the Certified General Accountants of Ontario (CGA Ontario) (http://www.cga-ontario.org) and the CampusCurrent (http://www.mycampuscurrent.com) Mobile Platform.

“CGA Ontario is a proud sponsor of this exciting new mobile application,” said Bruce Richards, vice-president, business development, Certified General Accountants of Ontario. “Productivity and efficiency help students to do more with their careers; by supporting this smart phone initiative the Association can help students manage their busy schedules and heavy workloads to maximize their own productivity and efficiency.”

About the Certified General Accountants of Ontario:

Certified General Accountants of Ontario is the self-governing body that grants the exclusive rights to the CGA designation, and controls the rigorous professional standards of accreditation and professionalism in accounting for its 20,000 CGAs and 8,000 students who are working towards their CGA designation in Ontario, in protection of the public interest.

About CampusCurrent:

CampusCurrent (http://www.mycampuscurrent.com) is a customizable mobile application platform designed and built for universities and colleges by Undercurrent MOBILE (Undercurrent). Undercurrent designs and builds mobile applications for universities and colleges on Android, Apple and BlackBerry platforms. Undercurrent is headquartered in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

The Roslyn Union Free School District

The Roslyn Union Free School District, a part of the Long Island Schools, is composed of five schools: a pre-kindergarten to first grade school; an elementary school with first to fifth grade; a second elementary school with second to fifth grade; a middle school with sixth to eighth grade; and a high school. The Roslyn Union Free School District serves Long Island’s north shore of the Long Island School District. This school district has an enrollment of around three thousand five hundred students. The Long Island School District and specifically the Roslyn Union Free School District has a strong dedication to preparing all students for life in the twenty-first century.

This school district provides a strong science and technologically based education. All students receive computer education in all grades from kindergarten to twelfth grade. As a result the Roslyn Union Free School District has had semifinalists in the Intel Science Talent Search every year for the past twenty-four years. The school district also has programs in the application of science to the real world. Like all schools in the Long Island School District, the Roslyn School District often seeks additional or outside funding to make their programs a reality. One such source is F.A.S.T. or the Foundation for the Advancement of Student Technology.

The Foundation for the Advancement of Student Technology

The Foundation for the Advancement of Student Technology is a not-for-profit organization that, in close cooperation with the school district, works to increase the Roslyn School District’s technology education program. This organization also aims to create connections between the school district, local Long Island businesses and the community. The Foundation for the Advancement of Student Technology raises funds by holding various kinds of fundraisers and some technological based events. The Foundation for the Advancement of Student Technology has successfully raised over one hundred fifty thousand dollars for the Roslyn School District’s computer and technological education programs.

F.A.S.T.’s Golf and Tennis Classic

One such fundraising event is the annual Foundation for the Advancement of Student Technology Golf and Tennis Classic. The fifth Foundation for the Advancement of Student Technology Golf and Tennis Classic was held on June 12th at the Glen Head Country Club. Over the past five years F.A.S.T. has used the Golf and Tennis Classic to fund and support computer related projects and district wide technology based educational seminars.

The Foundation for the Advancement of Student Technology Golf and Tennis Classic is a day long tournament that includes brunch, lunch, cocktails, full course dinner and a silent auction. Every year there are over two hundred participants. The event as recently renamed in memory for Glenn Steinfast, a former news anchor and long time F.A.S.T. supporter.

An additional fundraising effort is the Foundation for the Advancement of Student Technology’s Discount Card which is purchased for around $20 and gives discounts to local businesses in the Roslyn Union Free School District, part of the Long Island Unified School District. The proceeds from the purchased Discount Cards go toward funding the development of computer education.

This millennium stands testimony to the fact that human mind is one of the new frontiers which we are trying to conquer. Breath taking technologies are being introduced almost every year and it seems we’re on the way to make our life easier and more comfortable. Education – that is a reflection of the development of a society and is the foundation stone of the bright future of a nation has undergone drastic changes in the last fifty years. How has technology changed education? This question will be critically analyzed in this article.

Positive Effects of Technology on Education

Talking in a positive sense, the impact of technology on education has been phenomenal. Using Internet and computers as en effective medium to establish communication between schools, teachers, students and parents; educational institutes have been able to handle many issues that were previously not handled with ease due to geographical limitations or lack of adequate training technologies. Here are some of the most positive aspects of technology in education, in this segment of the article on, ‘how has technology changed education’.

Enhanced Teaching and Learning
Technological developments like digital cameras, projectors, mind training software, computers, PowerPoint presentations, 3D visualization tools; all these have become great sources for teachers to help students grasp a concept easily. It has to be understood that visual explanation of concepts makes learning fun and enjoyable for students. They’re able to participate more in the classroom and even teachers get a chance to make their classes more interactive and interesting. The importance of technology in schools can be understood from the fact that it empowers the educational system and produces better students.

Confidence Booster
Being exposed to technological wonders like computers and the Inter net and learning to operate them from an early age, students are able to develop a sense of self esteem and confidence. There are many things that students are able to do on their computer that their parents aren’t even aware of, this helps them create their own special world and this gives them a feeling of being special. This makes them believe that they stand strong in global competition.

Increased Cooperation Amongst Peers
A majority of teachers have stated a very surprising fact that introducing technologies in classroom has increased peer to peer interaction. Many kids who’re comfortable in handling computers come out to lend a helping hand to students, who face problems in working on computers. Reading more on how important is technology in education will help you know more about role of technology in education. The importance of technology in the classroom goes beyond computers and Internet. They’re now, just as important as notebooks and school bags.

Increased Knowledge
Teachers have reported that students who sincerely complete their research projects by referring to the plethora of information available on the Internet are able to develop good analytical and research skills. By referring to a large number of resources, a serious student utilizes his or her common sense and judgment skills to choose the best material and use it as an advantage to complete the project. By getting exposed to numerous ideas for their assignments and the creative ways to finish them, students develop excellent research abilities. Certainly, ‘how has technology changed education’ needn’t be a question that is difficult to answer.

No Geographical Limitations
With the introduction of online degree programs there is hardly any need of being present physically in the classroom. Even several foreign universities have started industry oriented online degree courses that aspirants can join. Distance learning and online education have become an integral part of the education system now a days. Certainly, the value of off-campus education may never be equal to that of on-campus training but for diploma and other courses, when the student is thousands of mile away from the educational institute, these online courses can be of great advantage.

Negative Effects of Technology on Education

Teachers and scholars across the globe have unanimously stood for integrating technology in education. This is owing to the fact that just like students, even teachers find it easier to circulate study materials by using Internet as a communication tool. Technological developments have made life easier for teachers and students. However, there is a certain negative impact of technology that needs to be analyzed in order to understand how has technology changed education.

Poor Teacher – Student Relationship
Many teachers have a common complaint that negative habits of students are more exacerbated due to the use of technology. In countries like the US, where assignments and homeworks are required to be submitted online, students tend to forget common email etiquette like salutation and sometimes, even adding texts in the attachments! Moreover, the trend of last day submissions has now transformed into last hour, last minute submissions. Students submit their assignments even hours after the time for submission is over and their emails don’t contain any explanation or a note of apology.

Moreover, questions, queries and problems regarding any topic in assignments that should reach to the teacher within 24 hours of submission of the homework, remain due for days. Not many students are even bothered to get their queries cleared. Those few who raise questions want them to be answered online which is not always possible, as teacher – student interaction is something that is vital to understand intricate topics. The trend of blackboards wherein, teachers post online notes, lectures, assignments and other information has cultivated the habit of skipping college lectures amongst students.

The belief that Google is always there, has made students disorganized and impatient. They just want to copy and paste the information, so that they can finish the assignment. Going to the college library, searching for information from books or even online library facilities seems to be a daunting task for students. Teachers have expressed concern that not many students are productively utilizing technology for their growth. Teachers are also concerned about the fact that students don’t fix appointments with them to seek answers to queries or to know something more about the subject. This is one of the negative ways of how has technology changed education.

Increasing Incidents of Cheating
Technological developments like graphing calculators, high tech watches, mini cameras and similar equipments have become great sources to cheat in exams. It is easier for students to write formulas and notes on graphing calculators, with least chances of being caught. While vigilance can curb this problem, there seems know clue as how issues of plagiarism and ‘cut- copy – paste’ will be dealt with. Students pick up any one website and the contents in the exact manner, as given in the website.

Lack of Focus
SMS or text messaging has become a favorite pastime of many students. Students are seen playing with their cell phone, iPhones day and night, right from crossing a street, or driving and very often even between lectures. Being ever-connected to the online world has resulted in lack of focus and concentration in academics and to some extent, even in sports and extra curricular activities. It is certainly not possible to read a difficult subject and at the same time, chat with a friend, and remain logged in on facebook. These are very obvious distractions that have eroded the sense of mental focus, peace and concentration ability from students’ life. Video gaming for instance has become the greatest distraction for students. Teenagers are easily influenced by any new gadget and technology being introduced in the market and this has also made them splurge unnecessarily.

Poor Reading and Writing Skills
Reading seems to be a lost hobby in this age. While there is a plentiful of information in the form of free ebooks available on the Internet, anybody who likes reading will agree that reading a book online and reading a printed form of book certainly has some prominent differences. Even if students were reading books online, it would have been fair but the fact is that owing to bombardment of information, the moment a teenager opens a website, he is lost elsewhere, either searching for new games or opening his or her facebook profile. Since assignments are mostly done online, hand writing skills of students have become pathetic.

It is understandable that in this age of computers, there is hardly any requirement of hand writing skills but still, a good hand writing is an integral part of learning. It improves our eye to hand coordination, makes us more focused and gives us an opportunity to express ourselves, more profoundly. Writing skills also convey deeper aspects about our personality like our organizational abilities and ability to express our ideas in a refined manner. Certainly, typing on a keyboard doesn’t impair creativity in writing (in fact they’re useful, as using a backspace, one can easily change previous sentences). Nevertheless, hand writing skills are certainly an integral part of good education.

Why is Technology So Important Today
Importance of Technology
The information detailed above covered some vital points regarding how has technology changed education. Since technology has both positive and negative dimensions, we must make efforts to help students and kids realize the potential in the proper use of technology. Since kids always love freedom, respective authorities must ensure that they are not overdosing students with strict rules and regulations regarding using technologies in schools and colleges. But, certain rules are essential to avoid overuse of technology in education. That will ensure that technology is used for improving a student’s life and not wasting valuable resources like time and money.

We all want our computers to be as speedy as they can be. There are many different ways to increase computer performance through different types of upgrades. Processors have been getting speedy because of demand and competition. The maximum capacities of processing speed are being reached by modern manufacturing techniques. To make processor fast, chipmakers have been creating new CPU architectures to process information not just faster but better in order to milk every ounce of processing power they can. Intel created Hyper-Threading technology as an upgrade in CPU architecture and quietly integrated into some of their processors for development and testing purposes.

It is based on the idea of simultaneous multi-threading technology (SMT) where multiple physical CPUs are used to process multiple threads at once. As an alternative of using multiple physical processors, Intel created multiple logical processors inside a single physical CPU. Intel recognizes that CPUs are inherently inefficient and have lots of computing power that never gets used.

Hyper-Threading Technology allows multi-threaded software applications to execute threads in parallel. Consequently resource utilization gives up higher processing throughput. It is basically a more superior form of Super-threading that first introduced on the Intel Xeon processors and later added to Pentium 4 processors. This type of threading technology was not present in a general-purpose microprocessor. To boost performance, threading was allowed in the software by splitting instructions into multiple streams so that multiple processors could act upon them. By using Hyper-Threading Technology, processor-level threading can be utilized which provides more efficient use of processor resources for greater parallelism and improved performance on today’s multi-threaded software.

Hyper-Threading Technology is a multi-threading technology in which SMT is achieved by duplicating the architectural state on each processor, while sharing one set of processor execution resources. It also produces faster response times for multi-tasking workload environments. By permitting the processor to use on-die resources that would otherwise have been idle, it offers a performance boost on multi-threading and multi-tasking operations for the micro architecture.

In a CPU, every clock cycle has the ability to do one or more operations at a time. An only one processor can only handle so much during an individual clock cycle. Hyper-Threading permits a single physical CPU to fool an operating system capable of SMT operations into thinking there are two processors. Hyper-Threading produces logical processors to handle multiple threads in the same time slice a single physical processor would normally only be able to handle a single operation. There are some prerequisites that must be satisfied before taking advantage of Hyper-Threading. The first prerequisite, you must have a Hyper-Threading enabled processor, HT enabled chipset, BIOS and operating system. Further, your operating system must support the multiple threads. Finally, the number and type of application being used makes a difference on the increase in performance as well.

Hyper-Threading is a hardware upgrade to help make use of some of the wasted power of a CPU, but it also helps the operating system and applications to run more efficiently and therefore they can do more at once. There are millions of transistors inside a CPU that turn on and off to process commands. By adding more transistors chipmakers typically add more brute force computing power. More transistors equal a large CPU and it produces more heat. Hyper-Threading looks for to increase performance without significantly increasing the number of transistors contained on the chip, making the CPU footprint smaller and producing less heat.

Hyper-Threading offers two logical processors in one physical package. Each logical processor must share external resources like memory, hard disk, etc. and also must use the same physical processor for computations. The performance boost will not scale the same as a true multiprocessor architecture because of the shared nature of Hyper-Threading processors. System performance will be somewhere between that of a single CPU without Hyper-Threading and a multi-processor system with two comparable CPUs.

This technology is independent upon platform. Some applications are already multi-threaded and will automatically benefit from this technology. Multi-threaded applications take full benefits of the increased performance that Hyper-Threading Technology has to offer, permitting users will see immediate performance gains when multitasking. It also improved reaction and response time, and increased number of users a server can support. Today’s multi-processing software is also compatible with Hyper-Threading Technology enabled platforms, but further performance gains can be realized by specifically tuning software for Hyper-Threading Technology. For future software optimizations and business growth this technology complements traditional multi-processing by providing additional headroom.

The Climate Group recently released a report on China’s CCS technology (carbon capture and storage technology) development prospect.

Report under the International Energy Agency (IEA) statistical estimates, CCS emission reduction contribution of emission reductions from the 2020 total of 3% to 10% in 2030 and in 2050 will reach 19%, a reduction the largest single share of technology. Report, IEA in the comprehensive analysis of the various mitigation technologies in the long-term mitigation costs that, CCS technology, use of lower total abatement cost – Not adopted CCS technology, if in the circumstances to achieve the temperature Kongzhimubiao, Name Dao 2050 The total reduction in use of CCS technology than the cost of a 70% increase.

Report that, CCS may be occupied by low-carbon technologies in China and Chinese enterprises to enter the high international market opportunities. Although the Chinese Government has not yet developed a clear strategy for CCS development, but so far, the Chinese in terms of R & D projects or demonstration on, have some achievements. If China can advance CCS technology Heights occupied, then in the last 30 years with accumulated equipment manufacturing capacity, China has the market in the next CCS occupy a place of great potential, Chinese enterprises can take into the international market.

Reported that the CCS in the power industry will become China’s main applications. China has thousands of coal conversion plant, and the combination of the field of coal conversion, probably in China, a major feature of the development of CCS. However, CCS is still affected by the rapid development of technology, capital, security management, and industry chain development, cooperation and other aspects of international and domestic factors, in order to achieve these wonderful visions, need to work in the following areas:

First, to achieve a legal basis to promote an international climate agreement.

The second is to improve the level of CCS technology and security. Government needs to introduce a clear policy to support the development of the CCS technology.

Three demonstration projects to accelerate the process of screening the best combination of technologies.

Fourth, establish a clear investment and financing mechanisms to enhance public investment to attract private capital into the development. CCS in the world there are huge funding gap, and the lack of clear investment and financing mechanisms. Direct investment in the government and large enterprises, government subsidies, tax cuts, public funds and public-private partnerships and other mechanisms have been applied, but so far the international community undertook to provide application, the quantum of funding for CCS is about 40 billion U.S. dollars, accounting for only IEA Forecast Year 2010 -2020 31% of the investment required.

From the current CCS technology development and market conditions, the demonstration phase of the public welfare than profit, the early demonstration stage of financing can not rely on market mechanisms, requires direct government investment. In the large-scale promotion stage, can use low-carbon energy supply quotas to mandatory promotion of a standard form, carbon pricing into the global carbon market, CDM mechanism, the auction of carbon credits and increased tax transactions, price changes for free credits, new tax and mechanism of financing of non-tax special charges. After the commercialization of the CCS, private capital will play a leading role. On a single technology, private capital may be in early access, advanced technology and equipment manufacturing markets to seize. However, the level of activity depends on private capital climate policy uncertainty, and a clear return on investment potential.

Fifth, to develop prevention-oriented, rights and responsibilities to distinguish between the CCS safety laws and regulations.

Sixth, the establishment of effective mechanisms for international cooperation.

7 is to establish a clear industrial development policies.

8 is to promote cross-sectoral cooperation of stakeholders. CCS cross-coal, electricity, oil and gas, transportation, chemical and other industries, many companies involved, and involve a number of large state-owned enterprises within the industry. CCS understanding of these enterprises are different strategies differ, both common interests, but also a conflict of interest. How to coordinate the interests of large state-owned enterprises, to develop cross-sectoral coordination mechanisms, while avoiding the government over the enterprise and the market intervention of the Government in the policy making complex issues to consider.

Report that, CCS technology is still in early stages of development, CCS whether as expected, become an important climate change mitigation technology transition, and is a large-scale applications, will depend on many factors. In the international climate policy, the participation of domestic stakeholders and co-operation, intellectual property transfer, technology, security, financing’s correct address, and demonstration projects, the State’s macro-policies of these cancers Du Jiang Jueding CCS in China Zuizhong direction.

A biomedical equipment technician (BMET) is a job that repairs medical equipments such as patient monitors and medical imaging equipments and so on. This job also does preventive maintenance to most medical equipment used in hospital and clinics. In short, they are needed to make sure the hospital can run smoothly. You can be a BMET too if you avail of the scholarship for the dad program.

This field of work can be studied as an associate in the biomedical equipment technician. The bachelor’s degree program will produce a biomedical equipment engineer. So the first one is studied for two years, while the latter four years and can proceed to higher education. However, the job is relatively the same, while the pay differs greatly but still satisfying financially.

Dads whose been wondering which career to switch to in this economic upheaval, can turn to this job. It only takes two years to study an associate degree. And with a scholarship for the dad program he is sure to be able to study this field. The scholarship has a $10,000 allowance yearly, so since he has no job today this money helps.

There’s a bright future in store for a family man who can successfully finish as BMET. This is because the job is in demand everywhere, even to rural areas in this country. And if he wants to relocate his family to a more affordable place, a job for him as BMET waits. The projection of such a job is to rise 27% by 2018, so he can’t ever be out of work again.

So all he needs to do now is to check with medical schools accredited to accept an applicant under scholarship for the dad program. Minimum educational attainment to be accepted as a student is a high school graduate. Even if he graduated years ago; he can still be eligible as long as he passed admission tests and interview.

Unfortunately, this program can’t be taken online. Obviously, one needs to be physically present when studying for repairs and maintenance of equipment. So he has to be a full-time student for two years. Besides there’s an allowance as a scholar so this should help with his financial needs.

**Update**

Did you know you can get a $10,000 scholarship for Dads just for registering? Apply right now for free at: Scholarships for Dads.
